I am a retired police officer but new to writing. And nothing is scarier for a new author than obscurity, especially after investing years in a single project. So, as odd as it may sound coming from a cop, I would rather the book be pirated than not read at all. Not that I want anyone to pirate my book, but if they do, I hope they really enjoy it.
How long does it take a cop to write a novel? I began my research while my son was going through a year of treatment for Ewings Sarcoma bone cancer—which he beat down like Tank Maynard would a mouthy perp. It took the better part of two years to finish the manuscript and outline the next two books in the series. Which is why I truly value every reader’s feedback. It’s the surest way for me to improve professionally, and create even better thrillers for you to enjoy.
Is it all really fiction?
It is true that some of the scenes were inspired by real events that I encountered during my law enforcement career. I used those experiences to give readers an insight into the hopes, fears, and frustrations of a police officer. But not just when we’re kicking butt by fighting crime. Being a husband and a parent made me a better cop, but being a cop created unbelievable challenges for my wife and kids. They overcame them all and have made me a blessed man.
Along with delivering an inspiring story, I hope I have humanized my profession in some ways, and honored my brothers and sisters in blue.
